Eden Building Project Included in TRIB Article

Building projects, tech upgrades and more set for North Hills area private, parochial schools
Eden Christian Academy is in the process of constructing a 27,000-square-foot academic building at its campus in Ohio Township, which serves students in grades seven through 12. The non-denominational evangelical Christian school also has grade-school campuses in Ross and Pine.

“We're not building because we want to have a new building. We're doing this because we we're running out of space,” said Tom Hughes, the head of school. Hughes noted that the pupil population, which draws from more than 100 churches, has increased from 590 to 640 since 2011.

Once completed, the new building will provide additional classrooms, science labs, a cafeteria and a media center. In addition to expanding the use of technology for students and teachers, Eden is continuing to develop a partnership with the University of Pittsburgh in which juniors and seniors can earn college credit.

“Last school year we began offering a college in high school program for chemistry,” Hughes said. “This year we're adding a Spanish program.”

Eden teachers train at Pitt and then teach the university's curriculum to students at the high school campus. Students who participated in the chemistry program also had the opportunity to take labs at the Oakland campus. Classes started Aug. 24. More details,edenchristianacademy.org.

“She comes from a solid high school program, but wasn't over-trained,” Southeastern coach Paul Kurtz said. “I see her moving up our roster as every year goes by and, before long, being one of our top runners.”

Snavely finished 21st at the 2015 WPIAL Class A championship meet, 60 places better than the previous season. She helped the Warriors to fifth place and qualified for the PIAA championship. She was 122nd in the WPIAL in her first season, in 2013.
