Leadership Students Serve at Local Safe House

Prior to Thanksgiving break, seven seniors in our Servant Leadership class, Brett, Ava, Ainsley, Hailey, Kaylee, Aleiah, and Lauren, had the remarkable opportunity to serve at a local safe house for women transitioning out of human trafficking. What began as a class assignment quickly grew into a meaningful outreach project fueled by compassion and teamwork. After several weeks of planning, fundraising, and preparation, students raised approximately $1,500, developed a budget, purchased materials, and spent a full day renovating the facility’s art and lounge space to create a warmer, safer, and more hopeful environment. They cleaned, organized, decorated, and added thoughtful touches that transformed the room physically, while also demonstrating genuine empathy for the women who will use it. As a next step in supporting this ministry, Mount Nebo families are being invited to help provide Hope Bags for women at the moment they are rescued, many of whom leave with almost nothing. Students will be collecting small donations (suggested: $5 per student) during lunch this week, with labeled jars by grade level, to help fund these bags and extend the impact of their project. Staff at the safe house expressed deep gratitude, sharing how meaningful this refreshed space will be for women beginning a new chapter of healing and hope. We are incredibly proud of our students for using their leadership training to serve others in such a tangible, Christ-centered way.

Exploring Dalton's Atomic Theory

Chemistry students put Dalton’s Atomic Theory to the test and discovered that you can’t turn metals into gold, no matter how hard you try! By coating pennies in zinc and heating them, students created brass, a copper–zinc alloy that looks a lot like gold (and probably fooled some hopeful alchemists in the past!). This hands-on experiment was a fun reminder that, according to Dalton, matter can’t be created or destroyed, only changed.

As part of this tradition, families had the opportunity to bless those in need by purchasing meals to be donated to the Light of Life Rescue Mission in Pittsburgh. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our ECA parents and staff, combined with Medure’s “meal for meal” match, 801 donated meals became 1,602 total meals for individuals and families in our local community. Honoring Veterans at Eden

Across all three campuses, Eden Christian Academy students came together to honor and celebrate our nation’s veterans through special Veterans Day chapels. At the Mount Nebo campus, students gathered during TS for a meaningful time of worship led by the Worship Arts Class. Student Mimi shared her personal story of growing up in a military family—highlighting the sacrifices and challenges faced by those with loved ones serving abroad. The service concluded with a moment of silence and a moving performance of Taps by two band students. At Berkeley Hills, the chapel featured guest speakers Marty Moyer, a former Marine and father of student Levi, and Officer Chris, our BH SSO officer who also served as a Marine sniper. The sixth-grade band performed a beautiful rendition of God Bless America, and students sang a medley of patriotic songs to honor all who have served, complete with a surprise appearance from Mrs. Johncour in a ghillie suit! At the Wexford campus, students hosted a special chapel to bless veterans. Third- and fourth-graders sang "God Bless America," a sixth grader performed a clarinet solo, and another student read an original poem honoring veterans. Laughter, Connection, and Spiritual Growth at the Middle School Retreat

Middle school students had an unforgettable experience at their annual retreat at Ligonier Camp & Conference Center, where they grew in faith, built friendships, and embraced adventure. Led by their teachers and several senior leaders, students participated in team-building and high ropes activities, like the infamous “Flying Squirrel” and “Vomit Comet”, cheering each other on and stepping out of their comfort zones (if you watch the video closely, you might even spot Dr. Schutt taking a turn). The highlight of the retreat was the powerful worship service, led by senior students along with Mr. Hogue and Mr. Guidroz, and featuring guest speaker RJ Owens, Middle School Director at Christ Church at Grove Farm. RJ challenged students to find their true identity in Christ, reminding them that as image-bearers of God, their worth and purpose are defined by Him alone. Students spent time in prayer, individually and in small groups, reflecting on how to live out their faith boldly. After a night of worship, games, and fellowship, the retreat ended with a spirited game of Capture the Flag before everyone headed back to campus.

He reminded families that even in a world filled with confusion and division, Eden’s mission remains clear to raise students who are courageous, grounded in biblical truth, and guided by Christ’s love.
Dr. Schutt emphasized Eden’s commitment to engaging thoughtfully with the world through a biblical lens and ensuring the safety and well-being of every student—spiritually, emotionally, and physically. After visiting every classroom this fall, he shared what stood out most: “I saw teachers not just instructing, but discipling. I saw biblical truth woven naturally into every subject and a culture rooted in Christ’s love.”

Pastor Sean emphasized that Jesus came to bring us the good news of the Gospel. In the beginning, God lived in close fellowship with humanity. However, when people sinned, they became separated from God, losing that intimacy. This created a gap that humanity could not bridge on its own. Jesus came to fill that gap, allowing us to restore our fellowship with God and with one another.

Growing in Faith in Chapel

This school year has gotten off to a fantastic start! Although classes are just beginning, chapel has already become an essential part of student life and spiritual growth at Eden. Each week, students gather across our campuses to worship, hear God’s Word, and be challenged to live out their faith in practical ways. These moments of prayer, praise, and teaching not only strengthen their walk with Christ but also help build a sense of unity and fellowship within the Eden community.
As President David Schutt shared, “We know your hopes for your children extend far beyond academics. You desire for them to grow in wisdom, character, and, most importantly, in their relationship with Christ. This is our shared vision—and it is already coming to life.”
Chapel continues to be a beautiful reminder that at Eden, education is more than academics; it is about shaping both the mind and the heart for Christ.

Juniors Help EduNations

During the months of March and April, the junior Bible class took on the goal of raising funds to help an organization called EduNations, a faith-based, non-profit organization that builds and operates schools in under-resourced communities. They seek to educate children, ignite hope, and transform their lives. One of their programs is called "Meals for Mariatu." This program specifically raises funds to feed school children in the African country of Sierra Leone. The fifty students of the junior Bible class were divided into seven groups (of six to seven students each) and were tasked with raising funds to meet this need. Each group set a goal to raise $330, which is enough to feed five students for a month. The groups came up with individual strategies to raise these funds, including the following: concessions at a volleyball event, a lunch time raffle, a dodgeball tournament, a waffle breakfast, scoops and spoons (an ice cream bar and games during study hall), selling various food options during lunch, and morning donut sales.
